Batman Vs. Superman Said To Have Super Bowl Trailer

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18970:]]

Just yesterday saw it confirmed news for Batman Vs. Superman is coming soon, and now it’s being said a Batman Vs. Superman trailer will air during the Super Bowl.

Update: There was no Batman Vs. Superman Super Bowl trailer, but DC has said Batman Vs. Superman news is coming in February.

The info comes from an advertiser analytics website, ispot.tv; they have it listed a 30-second spot for Batman Vs. Superman will be shown.

The Batman Vs. Superman trailer hasn’t been confirmed by Warner Bros., and another rumor has it the Batman Vs. Superman trailer is attached to Jupiter Ascending this Friday, so maybe we’ll get a 30-second Super Bowl preview followed by the full trailer.

While Warner Bros. usually skips out on the Super Bowl – there were no Man of Steel or Dark Knight Super Bowl trailers – perhaps WB wants to kick things up a notch as Batman Vs. Superman comes out a couple weeks prior to Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War, which is essentially another Avengers movie.

Here is the screenshot with the Batman Vs. Superman trailer listed:

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18969:]]

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” has a March 25, 2016 release starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Ray Fisher as Cyborg with Callan Mulvey, Holly Hunter and Tao Okamoto in new character roles for the film. Justice League is to follow directed by Zack Snyder as well.

The DC All Access YouTube Channel announced that a new co-host is coming on board in February, and with it mention of Batman Vs. Superman news.

“This is going to be our biggest year, yet,” teased new co-host Jason Inman. “February is going to be all about the crown princess of crime as we are going to celebrate Harley Quinn month. Plus, the premiere of iZombie is just around the corner, and we are going to give you the low down on DC’s massive publishing event, Convergence.”

“And if that wasn’t enough,” Tiffany Smith added. “We’ve also got movie news on Suicide Squad and Batman v Superman.”

New episodes of DC All Access are set to begin next Tuesday, which is a couple of days before Jupiter Ascending premiers.

Review: The Imitation Game (2014)

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18967:]]

Facsimile of History

[Continuing our 2015 Academy Award Roundup]

A Film Review of The Imitation Game

Welcome back ladies and gentlemen to another World War II dramatic period piece because 1) why not? 2) it is always difficult to ignore during award season and 3) The number of brilliant individuals whose singular contributions to this highly romanticized global conflict is seemingly endless as their tales continue to enter the mainstream.  I have an admitted fatigue with WW II films because they’ve become just as predictable as zombie films, are more concerned with glorifying heroism (and violence) than anything else and between movies, TV and video games; I’m just sick and tired of seeing Nazis in any capacity.  Enter The Imitation Game, a film that tells a story of British mathematician Alan Turing who invented a machine that broke Nazi Germany’s Enigma codes which was instrumental in turning the tide in the Allies’ favor in the European Theatre.  Unlike American Sniper, this is not a war film that takes the audience to the front lines, but rather gives us a glimpse into the technical and strategic think tanks that have essentially made the evolution of war infinitely more efficient in its brutality than the use of sticks and stones.  Expect lots of dialogue, a minimum of action and a healthy regimen of expert acting.

One more thing to expect is a significant amount of criticism regarding the “facts” of this film and the manner in which they are portrayed.  Quite frankly, historians are foaming at the mouth to bite into the multitude of inaccuracies made for the purpose of enhanced drama and I am shocked, SHOCKED, to learn of this scandalous situation.  Actually, I am not.  I would like to think that those who frequent the cinema often enough would be aware of the truth regarding “reel” history, but for those who accept everything they see and hear as the absolute truth, let me make this abundantly clear.  Film adaptations (Hollywood or otherwise) are works of fiction.  They are not documentaries which are indeed works of non-fiction and should therefore be viewed as entertainment first and secondly, as an invitation to research actual recorded history should the story peak one’s interest.

Although The Imitation Game credits biographer Andrew Hodges’ book “Alan Turing: The Enigma” as the basis for its screen story, this film has no interest in simply recreating a series of bullet points in Turing’s life.  Even if the creative license at work by director Morten Tyldum and screenwriter Graham Moore has been stretched beyond acceptable limits, it is still a work of fiction.  Perhaps critics are frustrated that the possible slander of Turing’s legacy, as suggested by moments in the film, is the lasting impression that will be absorbed into the global culture’s zeitgeist.   My suggestion is that if this film’s offenses are that outrageous, and then address the situation with a documentary that calls out the inaccuracies by concerning itself with being educational about the facts.  Sniping at it from the academic pulpit without something more productive behind the criticism will be met with apathy and that’s usually the way any controversy regarding the entertainment industry’s mucking up of history plays out.

Thus, accepting this screen story as fiction, The Imitation Game gradually unveils its true message through a series of flashbacks in Alan Turing’s life that most frequently visits his active Enigma work at Bletchley Park.  Brought up to be a intellectual from boyhood, Turing’s apparent weakness as a human being turns out to be social interaction and as often as this story highlights the tragic effects of his personality quirks, it also provides moments of genuine comedy which forced me to laugh out loud in the theatre on more than one occasion.  The interesting aspect of this story is that although it is primarily concerned with the human effort put into cracking Enigma, it does have secondary and tertiary agendas at work.  As the story progresses, we realize that it has much more to do with Turing’s personal life, the moments that shaped it and the possible reasons for his rabid desire to do what most deemed impossible outside of surviving and ultimately winning the war against Nazi Germany.

The story’s perspective also flashes forward periodically to Turing’s life post WW II and the police investigation regarding his personal affairs.  These moments are amongst the most contentious for the historians and a bit for me due to the aforementioned third agenda regarding sexuality that seemed to come out of nowhere.  The final moments of this film are literally spelled out for the audience via superimposed text which explains the aftermath of Turing’s death.  Because the previous ¾ of the film had not been actively pursuing this angle in Turing’s life beyond mild hinting, this dénouement felt a bit awkward in how it was shoehorned in considering the seriousness of its message.  This last minute curveball dilutes the message of tolerance and I wonder if this film would have been better served had these moments were cut all together.  Tolerating Alan Turing as a character was framed within the concept of him being an intellectual elitist and an impersonal narcissist.  His redemption was a genuine ignorance of other people’s feelings and opinions and the effort he made to bridge the gap of understanding (much like the effort that was not reciprocated to him by British society at the time).

This film is an entirely dialogue driven drama and one of its weaknesses is its ability to connect the film’s most interesting moments (anything involving Turing at Bletchley) to the devastation of WW II.  There are a couple of action scenes that show subs, ships and tanks at various fronts, but they are very short vignettes to remind the viewer that a war is in fact going on, but it isn’t lasting and not particularly satisfying for action junkies.  There is also one scene that shows Turing himself riding a bicycle through a recently bombed part of a city, but again this plays the role of one of those “reminder” scenes.  Playing the balancing game between action and dialogue scenes is never an easy task, but at the end of the day, the editor can only mix in whatever footage has been captured (or CG generated) in the first place.  In the case of this film the only reliable change in tempo or scenery throughout are the flashes to the different points in Turing’s life.

An excellent cast was assembled to support the protagonist in this story as contributions from Mark Strong, Charles Dance, Matthew Goode and Keira Knightley deliver respectable performances, but such is to be expected from these veterans.  This film (like American Sniper and The Theory of Everything) is one that ultimately boils down to one performance and its singular journey; namely Benedict Cumberbatch as Alan Turing.  If you missed him in Star Trek Into Darkness or the Sherlock TV series, The Imitation Game is an excellent opportunity to see this actor produce an absolute tour de force when it comes to dramatic acting for the silver screen.  As an introvert, Turing isn’t a particularly interesting character, but then he is forced to work with his colleagues and Cumberbatch revs up his awkward charm and sharp comedic timing.  The regal nature of his baritone voice easily establishes and maintains Turing’s intellectual domination in every scene.  However, where Cumberbatch truly shines is in every scene where Turing meets with heartbreaking failure, frustration or defeat.  Cumberbatch takes every ounce of negative energy to heart and channels his reaction so personally that the audience feels it in every tear he sheds.  Those believing Benedict Cumberbatch to be nothing more than a character actor with robotic tendencies are in for a rude awakening upon the screening of this film.

Few WW II films have shown less combat scenes during its runtime than The Imitation Game, but fewer have shown the little people behind the scenes that developed the technology, research and strategy that was clearly the difference between victory and defeat.  The code breakers at Bletchley may not have spilled blood on the battlefield, laid waste to an enemy platoon with a machine gun or piloted a single bomber into the heart of the enemy stronghold, but their efforts and Turing’s in particular, saved England.  Despite some of the historical inaccuracies, I found this film to be entertaining enough at telling aspects of Turing’s life.  The production could certainly have benefitted from more focus in its narrative, but it remains to be seen how much the audience will care when Benedict Cumberbatch’s performance resonates so profoundly.  However, when you factor in the historic faux pas and the multitude of hidden messages that are heavily back loaded towards the film’s final act, I couldn’t say that this film has a realistic chance at winning Best Picture.  It is a good film that deserves the viewer’s consideration for the outstanding performance of Benedict Cumberbatch.

Rose Byrne Confirmed For X-Men: Apocalypse As Moira MacTaggert; Dazzler A Possibility

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18963:]]

It’s confirmed that Rose Byrne will reprise as Moira MacTaggert for X-Men: Apocalypse.

Simon Kinberg told EW.com the following:

“She’s a significant character in the movie,” Kinberg said. “We ended First Class with Charles having wiped portions of her memory of her experience with the X-Men. They are, essentially, strangers to her when she meets them. It’s certainly a rich relationship that we started to dig into in First Class, and would like to mine more in this one.”

Kinberg continues with mention the characters will have gone through a lot by the end of the movie, but there is more to come.

“This movie is the completion of the first arcs of Charles, Eric, Raven, and Hank, who are essentially our main characters,” he explains. “They’re such young actors and young characters, so there’s a lot more story to tell. But as a first phase of their lives, there is this feeling of closure by the end of the movie.”

X-Men: Apocalypse is set in the 1980s, with Kinberg offering they are trying to incorporate as much as they can from that era, with the possibility of a certain mutant mentioned.

“That’s the era that I grew up in,” Kinberg said “The music, the fashion, the videogames: We really want to integrate all of that in the movie, and have it infuse the movie with a different vibe.

“Could happen,” Kinberg laughed in regards to Dazzler appearing.. “We’re certainly looking at mutants that would fit into the period.”

X-Men: Apocalypse has a May 7, 2016 release directed by Bryan Singer starring Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, James McAvoy as Charles Xavier, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Tye Sheridan as a young Cyclops, Sophie Turner as a young Jean Grey and Alexandra Shipp as a young Storm.

Fantastic Four Trailer Breaks Records; Simon Kinberg Talks Potential X-Men Crossover

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18962:]]

Even though Fantastic Four has been taking a lot of heat online, I gotta admit that I did like the new trailer.

It takes a more serious science-fiction approach, which is what I wish we would have seen more from James Gunn and the Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

I’m happy to say we won’t be having a “Dance Off, Bro” moment at the end of Fantastic Four.

That said, even with all the haters online, the Fantastic Four trailer broke records for Fox as the Fantastic Four trailer is the most-watched trailer in 20th Century Fox’s history, even beating out X-Men: Days Of Future Past, which was the previous record-holder.

Speaking of the X-Men, it recently became known that Fox is considering a crossover with Fantastic Four.

Now while speaking with EW.com, writer/producer Simon Kinberg offers further details.

“The reboot of FanFour really needed to work in and of itself,” Kinberg said. “We were doing something pretty radical with the tone of the movie. If we wanted to find a way to connect them to the X-Men, we could. There’s a lot of precedent from the comics.”

From what Kinberg just said, it seems likely that if Fantastic Four is a success, an X-Men crossover will happen. Obviously, if FF tanks, we’ll probably get another reboot in a few years.

“Fantastic Four” has an August 7, 2015 release directed by Josh Trank starring Miles Teller as Reed Richards, Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm, Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm,  Kate Mara as Sue Storm and Toby Kebbell as Victor von Doom.

Synopsis:

FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.

Chris Hemsworth Teases Thor 3 (Video)

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18959:]]

We get a short video of Chris Hemsworth discussing Thor 3.

While Hemsworth can’t say much – there isn’t even a script – Hemsworth goes tell Digital Spy it’s going to be big.

“Yeah. Definitely. I mean it has to. Doesn’t it?” Hemsworth responds when questioned if The Avengers: Age Of Utron will impact Thor 3. “No, I can’t [give any hints], but also there is no script for the next Thor, so I have no idea where we are going to end up, but it’s pretty big – this one.”

As mentioned, Chris Hemsworth will be featured in The Avengers: Age of Ultron prior to Thor 3, and for some reason, Thor is a heavy favorite to be killed off in Avengers 2. It’s possible the Marvel comic books could be to blame as anytime Thor is set to appear on the big screen, they either kill off or replace the character. Another reason could be that Joss Whedon has been teasing dead Avengers. There is also the fact that most of the cast of The Avengers 2 has been said to be appearing in Captain America 3, but not Thor (or the Hulk for that matter).

Thor: Ragnarok hits July 28, 2017.

Check out the video of Chris Hemsworth talking Thor 3:

“The Avengers: Age Of Ultron” hits May 1, 2015 directed by Joss Whedon starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Quicksilver, Paul Bettany as Vision, with James Spader as Ultron.

Synopsis:

When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.

Watch: Game Of War Kate Upton Super Bowl Teaser

Check out a teaser above for the Game Of War Super Bowl trailer featuring Kate Upton.

Update: The Game of War Super Bowl Trailer is now online.

I’ve been playing the game for a couple weeks now and both love and hate it.

While true, it’s technically a free-to-play mobile game, the problem is you aren’t going anywhere in the game unless you spend some real coin.

The game hooks you in by giving you a lot to do up to around level 10, but by level ten or so it then takes forever to build things and research abilities – so much so that it becomes frustrating – which causes people to stop playing.

The extras for the game don’t come cheap, either, as a gold pack will cost around a hundred bucks. My advice would be to make sure you have your research bonuses up as high as possible (you can craft items that give you research bonuses) to get the most out of your gold packs.

Game Of War recently launched Alliance City, which IMO, is a huge disappointment. Honestly, it feels like extortion. The game advertises Alliance City as a way for the alliance members to work together. The problem is that – again – it takes forever to build stuff, and for Alliance City, you can’t use your speed-ups, as Alliance City speed-ups are different and cost about 5x extra. So you are not really working together on anything, unless everyone wants to work together buying gold to purchase Alliance City speed-ups.

Don’t get me wrong, I do like the game a lot, but it’s really geared toward big spenders – and there are lots of big spenders. I’m around 10 million power and dropped about $150. There are guys with well over 100 million power and some even in the tens of billions range. It also stinks when those big guys bully the smaller alliances and capture and execute their hero — but it is pretty cool when you can do the same.

Watch: Ben Affleck, Matt Damon & Chris Evans On Deflategate

The Super Bowl happens to be this Sunday, but hasn’t come without controversy as the AFC Championship game between the Colts and Patriots saw almost a dozen footballs discovered with less air than what’s mandated.

In what has become known as “Deflategate,” the accusation is that the Patriots used deflated balls to give themselves an advantage as a softer ball in colder weather makes it easier to throw, catch and hold.

The Patriots, Coach Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady have denied the allegations, and the NFL is still looking into the matter.

While we still don’t know what the cause of “Deflategate” is, Jimmy Kimmel is on top of things.

Various Hollywood stars take credit for “Deflategate” above including Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, John Krasinski, Chris Evans, Steven Tyler, Eli Roth, Dicky Barrett and Bill Simmons.

Personally, I think “Deflategate” is the reason the Patriots have continued to win the AFC East and beat the Bills.

Chris Evans also has a Super Bowl bet going with Chris Pratt.

Terry Crews Wants To Play Silver Surfer

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18954:]]

With Mike Colter Marvel’s choice of Luke Cage, Terry Crews now states he wants to play another Marvel superhero.

Crews, in a Reddit fan QnA, states it’s the Silver Surfer.

You know?

Again… it’s hard to pick a favorite super-hero. I always did love Luke Cage, and I’m really, really happy about who they cast in the Netflix version of Luke Cage. So that’s something that’s already done. But you know who else I’d like to play? The Silver Surfer. I always LOVED – I thought I had the build, the body, I could get on that surfboard, and if they ever do a live-action version of Silver Surfer, I think that would be perfect for me.

In the comics, the character of Silver Surfer, Norrin Radd, happened to be a white guy, but as we’ve seen recently, the question of color doesn’t really matter.

Michael B. Jordan is playing the Human Torch for Fox, which also owns the rights to Silver Surfer. Perhaps along with the Fantastic Four reboot, a new Silver Surfer could be onboard as well.

Suicide Squad Rumors Include Karl Urban and More

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18953:]]

Another day, another batch of Suicide Squad rumors.

With Tom Hardy bailing on the role of Rick Flag, names of actors said to be in contention have been hitting the net.

The latest comes from JoBlo, who states Karl Urban is being eyed for the role of a younger Rick Flag.

Apparently, Suicide Squad may have Rick Flag Sr. and Jr.; up for Rick Flag Sr. is said to be Ed Harris and Max Martini.

General Lane, Lois’ father, is also mentioned, with Gary Sinise possibly up for that role, which as noted would be a nice connection to Man of Steel and Superman.

Joe Manganiello is again said to be the first choice for Deathstroke; new details mention Deathstroke is a hired assassin competing with the Suicide Squad and not a part of the team.

The Joker is said to be inspired by Hannibal Lecter with scars all over his body from battles with Batman. It’s said The Joker plays mind games with people and twists their minds.

Info for the Enchantress states the character is “really powerful” and is instrumental in the film’s prison riot/breakout finale.

The Batman cameo that was previously rumored is said to feature Batman on a security camera, with an appearance by Ben Affleck dependent on his schedule.

I’ll also throw out that Jesse Eisenberg is rumored to appear as Lex Luthor, and how he could fit in the movie is that he partners up with the head of the Suicide Squad, Amanda Waller, as they both don’t like the Justice League (got the idea from watching the Justice League cartoon last night).

Suicide Squad has an August 6, 2016 release directed by David Ayer starring Jared Leto as The Joker, Will Smith as Deadshot, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress and Viola Davis is said to be up for Amanda Waller.

Jurassic World Indominus Rex Description & Teaser Images

The official Jurassic World website has been updated with a description and images for the new hybrid dinosaur, Indominus Rex.

JurassicWorld.com lists Indominus Rex as follows:

Name Meaning: Fierce or Untamable King

Habitat: Jurassic World

Length: Currently 40 feet

Weight: TBD

Origin: Hammond Creation Lab

We set out to make Indominus the most fearsome dinosaur ever to be displayed at Jurassic World. The genetic engineers at our Hammond Creation Lab have more than delivered.

At first glance, Indominus most closely resembles a T. Rex. But its distinctive head ornamentation and ultra-tough bony osteoderms can be traced from Theropods known as Abeliosaurs. Indominus‘ horns have been placed above the eye orbit through genetic material hybridized from Carnotaurus, Majungasaurus, Rugops and Giganotosaurus. Fearsome indeed.

Indominus‘ roar is estimated to reach 140-160db—the same as a 747 taking off and landing. And it can reach speeds of 30 mph…while confined to its enclosure. Come experience Indominus Rex for yourself beginning this summer. If you dare.

Black Panther Chadwick Boseman Would Rather Have An Action Figure Than A Golden Globe

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18930:]]

Chadwick Boseman has been passed over this year for a Golden Globe and an Oscar award for playing James Brown in Get on Up.

It’s really no big deal to Boseman as the actor says he would rather have an action figure than Oscar or Golden Globe gold.

“When it comes down to it, I’d rather have an action figure than a Golden Globe,” Boseman said, reports THR.

Of course, Boseman is referencing his Marvel deal with Black Panther, as Boseman is set to play Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War and is thought to make an appearance in this May’s The Avengers: Age Of Ultron.

Independent.com also reports Chadwick Boseman has signed a five-picture deal with Marvel to portray Black Panther.

The Avengers: Age Of Ultron hits May 1st 2015; Captain America: Civil War has a May 5, 2016 release.
