Matthew Vaughn Confirms Superman Man of Steel 2 Talks

It is confirmed that Matthew Vaughn is in talks to direct a new Superman Man of Steel 2 movie.

Matthew Vaughn’s latest movie, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, comes out next week, and while doing press for the film told Hey U Guys that he loves Superman and has been chatting with WB about it.

“I am at this stage right now. I am planning another Kingman, I’ve written the treatment and some of the scenes
I don’t know what I’m going to do next but I have had chats about Superman. I love Superman. I like superheroes
If somebody asks me to do whether it’s Indiana Jones, most of the superheroes or Star Wars, the fanboy in me can’t help but be excited. ‘Oh my, God. This would be great.’ So never say never.”

We can speculate that Matthew Vaughn’s direction for Superman and Man of Steel 2 would be different than Zack Snyder’s approach, as prior to the Man of Steel reboot from Snyder, David S. Goyer and Christopher Nolan, Matthew Vaughn actually stated Superman shouldn’t be a Dark Knight.

I think that’s the one thing not to do with Superman, trying to do the serious The Dark Knight version. Superman is about color and fun, or it should be, for me,” Vaughn told MTV back in 2010.

Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel wasn’t received by a lot of Superman fans, and it even had noted Superman fans like comic book writer Mark Waid and Hollywood writer Max Landis blasting it for its depiction of violence and perceived un-Superman-like behaviors, such as Superman battling the Kryptonians in the middle of Smallville, Clark letting his father die, and Superman killing Zod.

The criticism didn’t stop there as some Superman fans didn’t like Zack Snyder’s Big Blue depiction in Batman vs. Superman, which saw Snyder kill off Superman’s best pal Jimmy Olsen; kill off Mercy Graves, who first appeared in the Superman animated series; a questionable use of Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Superman’s main antagonist; a questionable depiction of Doomsday, with a lot of fans complaining about the special effects; Superman not saving his mother; the Martha scene, as well as killing off Superman when he was just introduced a movie prior.

The good news is that Superman looks to be going back to his routes as by all accounts Justice League will be lighter than the previous Zack Snyder movies, and it’s thought Superman gets a brighter costume to reflect this.

Man of Steel 2 is said to be in development with rumors including Brainiac as a potential villain as well as the possibility of Supergirl appearing.

A Superman Red Son movie has also been pitched to WB, which may be a part of their new DC brand that is not a part of the DCEU continuity, which the recent Martin Scorsese Joker movie is a part of.
