Marvel’s ‘Agatha’ Getting ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ Comparisons

Yikes! I bet Kevin Feige never saw this coming but his new Agatha: Darkhold Diaries series coming to the Disney+ streaming service is causing online drama and being compared to Wonder Woman 1984.

Note: Potential spoilers follow.

Wonder Woman 1984 controversial scene

Recall the scene in Wonder Woman 1984 where Diana wishes Steve Trevor back from the dead.

So Patty Jenkins laughed about it and came up with the bright idea to bring back Steve Trevor in another man’s body, the “handsome man.”

Steve and Wonder Woman end up having sex, which means the “handsome man” couldn’t consent (imagine if the roles were reversed how the internet would have reacted).

Obviously, we all know Wonder Woman 1984 massively bombed, so much so that Patty Jenkins is no longer involved with a Wonder Woman 3 and Jenkins lost her Star Wars gig. Great job. At least Jenkins managed to get her “message” through.

So what does that have to do with Marvel’s Agatha: Darkhold Diaries series?

Apparently, there is a similar storyline where an MCU character takes over a body.

YouTuber Grace Randolph appears to have caused all the online ruckus with the comparisons to Wonder Woman 1984, but from my understanding about the MCU character, it’s different.

The rumors offer that Scarlet Witch’s kid, Billy, will be in Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, who takes over the body of another kid, but the kicker is the body of the kid is dead. So as the dead kid’s soul departs, Billy’s soul enters the body.

From my understanding, the dead kid is gay, so when Billy inhabits the body, he becomes gay and falls in love with the dead kid’s boyfriend, Eddie.

Maybe the controversy comes that Eddie doesn’t realize it’s a different person in the body?

So if true, that means, much like what happened in Wonder Woman 1984, Billy is tricking Eddie and taking advantage of him and that Eddie isn’t consenting to being with Billy?

Yeah, it all sounds complicated and a big mess and honestly is all very creepy. My recommendation: Keep it simple, guys!

Agatha: Darkhold Diaries is said to get released Fall 2024 and stars Kathryn Hahn.
