Mark Millar Reveals Superman Pitch With Matthew Vaughn

Mark Millar Reveals Man of Steel 2 Pitch With Matthew Vaughn

Earlier today saw Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class and Kingsman director Matthew Vaughn reveal he has talked with DC about multiple things and hinted he might tackle a project, which sounded like Superman.

It’s already known that Matthew Vaughn has chatted with DC about a potential Superman Man of Steel 2 movie, and now Mark Millar, who often pairs with Vaughn on comic book movies, weighs in offering their pitch in regards to the last son of Krypton from back in 2008 which would have been a new Superman trilogy.

Christopher Reeve Superman

Via the El Fanboy podcast (via JoBlo):

“He and I are massive Superman fans. I mean, we worship Richard Donner. We love the Christopher Reeve movies. He actually phoned me up a few months ago, and he said, “Hey, listen, DC, they’re very interested in me doing Man of Steel 2. Do you want to come in and do this?’ And I was like, ‘I’m exclusive to Netflix for years. We can’t even have that conversation.’ And he was like, ‘Oh, man. What’s the chances of this?’ And then he kind of drifted away. And he’s attached himself to a couple of things and all that. Y’know so, it’s one of those things that might, I mean- if somebody phones Matthew up and offers him enough money it could all change tomorrow,”

Henry Cavill Superman Man of Steel

Mark Millar continues offering their approach would have been different than Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel:

It was actually a massive, uplifting, hopeful thing. There’s no point doing Superman unless you feel good. You should walk out of ‘Superman’ just feeling like a million dollars. You should feel great after a Superman film. The movie itself was going to be a big, vast fun epic. But ‘Superman’s got to be a laugh, as well.”

Henry Cavill Batman v Superman

Regarding Zack Snyder’s approach to Superman, whether you absolutely love it or not, there is no denying that it didn’t perform up to expectations both at the box office and with some fans.

Both Man of Steel and Batman vs. Superman were so successful at the box office within their first weekend’s release that they spawned talk of further movies; however, both of movies faded away at the box office culminating in a disappointing release of Justice League, and now the DCEU is now getting an overhaul.

Interestingly enough, Matthew Vaughn was at one time rumored for Justice League.

It’s also been said that Christoper Nolan was the one who hand picked Zack Snyder to take over the DC films, which saw Nolan remain on as executive producer.

I’ll ad that I happen to agree with Mark Millar and Matthew Vaughn’s approach and feel a Superman movie needs to leave you inspired and filled with hope.
