Captain America: Civil War saw the introduction of Tom Holland as the new Marvel Studios Spider-Man, which has been positively received by the fans thus far.
Marvel isn't quite off the hook, however, as they are working with Sony who butchered the Amazing Spider-Man movies and Spider-Man 3. Red flags are already waving due to the controversial casting of Tony Revolori as Flash and Zendaya possibly as MJ. Marvel Studios hasn't really let anyone down to date (well, maybe the Nova Corps costumes in Guardians of the Galaxy), but having Sony in the mix is definitely cause for concern.
It takes place inside the cinematic universe that we have built across 14 films. In the previous films, Spider-Man was the only superhero who existed in that world. In the comic books, Spider-Man always existed in a world where the Avengers existed, and Iron Man existed, and the Hulk would run through the streets, and Captain America had been thawed out of the ice. In the film, he’s a young kid who has to be home at curfew so his Aunt May doesn’t get worried, and go to school, and do his homework. That’s in contrast to Tony Stark’s life or Stephen Strange’s.
"Spider-Man: Homecoming" has a July 7, 2017 release directed by Jon Watts starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Michael Keaton, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, with Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr.
