James Gunn Responds To Superman Early Screening Backlash

Following the announcement that Amazon Prime members will get early access to Superman screenings on July 8—three days ahead of its nationwide release—some fans voiced concerns about spoilers hitting social media.

That’s not all, as the new Man of Steel movie also opens internationally on July 9, two days ahead of the July 11 U.S. date.

Gunn Addresses the Concern

On Threads, one fan questioned the move: “Why? Now people are going to spoil the movie on social media for four days straight. Even if they love it and ticket sales get a boost from word of mouth, there’s still a risk of it backfiring due to intentional, hateful reviews from people who’ve been trying to stir negativity about this movie from the beginning.”

James Gunn responded directly, downplaying the spoiler worries:

“A) Hearing a spoiler won’t kill the movie. The enjoyment of the film isn’t based solely on its surprises.
B) But if it does concern you, please be careful of where you go online during those few days!”

Gunn super confident

True to Gunn’s words, fans should indeed be careful where they go online. You can guarantee that all the social media sites will be full of Superman spoilers and possibly even footage and images.

Honestly, fans are probably better off staying offline until they see the movie if they really want to avoid spoilers. And yeah, Gunn is probably counting on the early screenings to increase the hype.

If anything, at least it shows how confident Gunn is with his movie, which lines up with the previous reports that WB execs are happy with it. I’ll also add, as of right now, it’s the movie I’m most excited to see this summer. How about you? You can vote in our newly launched CBN SuperStream channel on Facebook.
