James Gunn shows off the new Superman logo at CinemaCon and recently on social media while responding to a rumor confirms the film’s villain.
Co-head of the DCU, Peter Safran, showed up in Las Vegas at CinemaCon and Gunn showed up in a video message as he has been busy filming the new Superman movie which stars David Corenswet as the new DCU Man of Steel.

What does James Gunn say about the Superman movie villain?
Regarding the villain, a recent rumor said something about a Bizarro Ultraman being the main villain, but as Gunn often likes to do, he responded to the rumor on Threads and confirmed in a no-brainer the villain of Superman is Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
“The primary protagonist of Superman is, shockingly, Superman. The main villain of Superman is, shockingly, Lex Luthor,” said Gunn. “I don’t know where all the stuff is coming from that it’s something other than this. There are so many stories coming out every day it’s difficult to deal with and everytime I strike something down I’m giving it attention. So, I’ll say again, don’t believe anything unless you see it HERE (& why would you want to know everything before the movie comes out anyway?)”
Superman flies into theaters on July 11, 2025 and also stars Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
