James Gunn Explains Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Post-Credit Scenes

James Gunn Explains Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Post-Credit Scenes

The Guardians of the Galaxy 2 movie has not 1, not 2, not even 3–but FIVE post-credit scenes! It also has a super cool closing credits crawl!

USA Today caught up with director James Gunn who even reveals there was an idea for a SIXTH Guardians of the Galaxy 2 post-credit scene!

On the Kraglin post-credit scene that sees Kraglin practice controlling Yondu’s arrow, which accidently sticks into Drax, James Gunn’s brother, Sean, offers  :

“Kraglin is certainly a survivor,” says Sean, adding that his director brother “was kind to me on this movie. He hasn’t always been kind to me in the past. He’s killed me in a lot of stuff. I was incredibly grateful just to be in the second movie, (especially) when I see my story has more of an arc to it.”

On the post-credit scene featuring Sylvester Stallone as Stakar with the original Guardians of the Galaxy characters from the 1969 Marvel comics (Michael Rosenbaum as Martinex; Ving Rhames as Charlie-27; Michelle Yeoh as Alega Ogord; Miley Cyrus as the voice of Mainframe, and the Sorceror Supreme from the 31st century – at least in the comics – the red-skinned Krugarr):

“Where they’ll show up and how they’ll show up, we’re still working on, but I would expect to see them in the future,” James Gunn teases.

Ayesha reveals she is creating the perfect weapon to get the Guardians of the Galaxy the next time they meet, which is a birthing pod she calls “Adam.” It’s Adam Warlock! Gunn says he had Adam Warlock in the first couple of treatments for Guardians of the Galaxy 2, but decided to cut Adam Warlock because of all the characters in the movie.

“I took him out and saved him for a later time.”

Baby Groot was revealed to be Teen Groot in a Guardians of the Galaxy 2 post-credit scene with Star-Lord coming in and scolding him for his vines being everywhere and his bedroom being a mess. Star-Lord say he now knows how Yondu felt. Groot says, “I am Groot,” in a teen-sounding way with a cracked voice.

“The reason why so many people not only love this movie but see these movies repeated times and feel so connected to these characters is because they’re utterly outcasts and oddballs and strange.”

Maybe the coolest of all the Guardians of the Galaxy 2 post-credit scenes is the Stan Lee scene with the Watchers!. Stan Lee is telling the Watchers his stories, and when they leave, Stan Lee is wondering how he will get home.

“When he first brought up the Watchers in the ’60s, the other writers were making fun of him and thought they were a stupid idea. He was like, ‘I like them,’ and he put them in. So Stan feels particularly redeemed.”

James Gunn also reveals a Guardians of the Galaxy 2 post-credit scene that he decided not to use which features Gef the Ravager (pictured lower right with goggles) who survived Yondu’s attack from earlier in the movie and has been onboard the ship all along.

The director filmed a scene where heroes Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Mantis (Pom Klementieff) are conversing and suddenly hear screaming. “We realize that Gef has been on the ship the entire time mortally wounded,” Gunn says. “It ended up being a little confusing.”

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” has a May 5, 2017 release directed by James Gunn starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Michael Rooker and Sean Gunn. New cast members include Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan and Kurt Russell.

Synopsis:

Set to the all-new sonic backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” continues the team’s adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage.
