Infinity War Soul Stone Theory Confirmed

Infinity War Soul Stone Theory Confirmed

The Russo brothers have confirmed a theory that just about everyone assumed to be true regarding the end of The Avengers: Infinity War and Gamora, Thanos and the Soul Stone.

The end of the movie saw Thanos snap his fingers, wipe out half the universe, and talk to the baby Gamora. Now it’s confirmed the scene did in fact take place within the Soul Stone.

“Yeah it’s implied [that] it’s the Soul Stone,” Joe Russo told students at a high school in Iowa City. “It’s all orange around, then he’s inside the Soul Stone with the amount of power that it took to snap his fingers- he has this out of body experience with Thanos. When he goes inside the Soul stone he has this kind of conversation with the younger version of his Gamora.”

Joe Russo also confirmed the theory that Gamora is trapped within the Soul Stone, as in order to acquire the Soul Stone, Thanos needed to sacrifice a soul.

“She in fact is, yes,” Joe Russo said about Gamora being trapped in the Soul Stone. “It was an attempt on our part – because we don’t like two-dimensional roles or three-dimensional villains every villain is a hero in their own story and as insane and psychotic and brutal and violent as Thanos is he’s a more complex villain if you go on a journey with him emotionally. He does care for things and it is complicated for him to execute his plan and it cost him something. He said at the end that it cost him everything, and that it was the only thing he loved which was Gamora which is why we put him back with her at the end.”

Joe Russo also explains that while Thanos is a bad guy, he still does have feelings (which I also explained in an article).

“I just want to reiterate with the audience that he does feel true emotion even though he is a monster,” Russo said.

So Joe Russo reveals that Gamora is seemingly still “alive” and interestingly enough that Thanos may not be as all-powerful as his comic book counterpart as he offers Thanos has an out of body experience due to the amount of power it took for Thanos to snap his fingers. Infinity War also showed both Thor and Scarlet Witch able to withstand the Infinity Gauntlet as well.
