Infinity War Concept Art Reveals Thor, Rocket, Groot Scrapped Plans

A cool new piece of concept art has landed online from The Avengers: Infinity War offering scrapped plans for Thor, Rocket Raccoon and Groot.

Artist Ryan Lang posted a piece of art on Twitter noting there was at one time plans for “Thor, Rocket, and Groot doing adventure stuff.”

Infinity War was a BIG movie. Most of the stuff I worked on got cut, but it was awesome to work on it! Here’s a scrapped idea of Thor, Rocket, and Groot doing adventure stuff. The worm/snake guys were a thing for a minute. I like painting Rocket,” Lang said.

The scene is pretty interesting as it reveals that Thor still is wearing his eye patch. It’s possible the scene may have involved the three of them in that alternate Stormbreaker scene.

“We explored a lot of different ideas of where Thor could go for that weapon. We even had versions of the story at one time where he was going to visit this sort of ghost of his dead grandfather – which was one version we were playing with that we didn’t end up using. I am happy where we had settled,” Joe Russo revealed back in August.

Thor’s grandfather happens to be Bor, the one time King of Asgard, son of Buri, father of Odin, and grandfather to both Hela and Thor, who was responsible for the defeat of Malekith and the Dark Elves’ army during the First Battle of Svartalfheim; Bor would eventually die in battle, with Odin succeeding him.

We can possibly assume that since Bor was dead, that Thor would have had to travel to either Hel or Valhalla to acquire a new weapon to take on Thanos.

If the above concept art involved Thor, Rocket and Groot going to find Bor, it would seem as if it took place in Hel judging by the creatures in the art.

Of course, it’s possible the concept art is a part of some other scene altogether.
