While coming into the weekend it was known that the Han Solo box office would be lower than expected, the estimates are now stating the movie’s weekend performance may not even reach $100 million.
And that is for the four day holiday weekend.
As it stands, Han Solo looks to debut to a dismal $83 million for its three day weekend and may barely crack $100-101 million for the four day Memorial Day weekend.
Its international box office gross is really no better as it brought in a massively disappointing $65 million.
While some sites are wondering if the poor performance of Han Solo is due to being released too soon following Star Wars: The Last Jedi (huh?) or from competition from Deadpool 2 (remember the rumor it was supposed to be bad, lol?), more than likely the real issue is that the movie is just not that good.
Proving all the industry insider remarks about Han Solo being a big mess correct, what should have been an easy “win” for Disney featuring one of the most popular Star Wars characters of all time, Han Solo is coming off as a major embarrassment and flop for Disney. The film marks the fourth disappointment of the new Star Wars movies under Kathleen Kennedy, who comes off the disaster that was Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which is probably a big factor why Han Solo failed as well. Star Wars: The Last Jedi was awful and Han Solo comes off as “meh,” so why should I bother going to see it? The Star Wars movies under Kennedy have become anti-fan friendly. It’s a simple formula, just give the fans what they want, not some force fed garbage. And if you don’t know what they want, it’s time to find someone in charge who does.
