The new Doctor Strange movie was very much a standalone Marvel film offering an origin for Benedict Cumberbatchâs Stephen Strange, the Sorcerer Supreme from Marvel Comics. Â If youâve seen the movie, you know Doctor Strange didnât feature any Avengers.
âThereâs so much with Strange and thereâs so much with his origin story, with the notion of magic and sorcery, the idea of the multiverse, thatâs what we wanted to focus on,â Kevin Feige said. âItâs different from Ant-Man, who could go on a side mission and encounter the Falcon. We didnât want to do that. The notion of a cameo out of nowhere in the middle of the movie didnât seem to fit.â
While no member of the Avengers appeared in Doctor Strange, the Avengers were name-dropped.
âWhereas Wong (one of the masters of magic) explains to Strange what they do there and putting it in the context of, âThe Avengers handle this part of the world, we deal with this,â was a nice way to tie it together. And then thereâs the fun tag which plays into future movies.â
As Feige notes, the Doctor Strange mid-credit scene did feature an Avenger.
Regarding Doctor Strange mingling with the Avengers, fans wonât have to wait that long as Benedict Cumberbatch is confirmed for The Avengers: Infinity War, and itâs also thought Benedict Cumberbatch might make an appearance in Thor: Ragnarok.
