Kevin Feige Explains Why No Avengers In Doctor Strange

The new Doctor Strange movie was very much a standalone Marvel film offering an origin for Benedict Cumberbatch’s Stephen Strange, the Sorcerer Supreme from Marvel Comics.  If you’ve seen the movie, you know Doctor Strange didn’t feature any Avengers.

The Toronto Sun caught up with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige who explained why Doctor Strange didn’t feature the Avengers.

“There’s so much with Strange and there’s so much with his origin story, with the notion of magic and sorcery, the idea of the multiverse, that’s what we wanted to focus on,” Kevin Feige said. “It’s different from Ant-Man, who could go on a side mission and encounter the Falcon. We didn’t want to do that. The notion of a cameo out of nowhere in the middle of the movie didn’t seem to fit.”

While no member of the Avengers appeared in Doctor Strange, the Avengers were name-dropped.

“Whereas Wong (one of the masters of magic) explains to Strange what they do there and putting it in the context of, ‘The Avengers handle this part of the world, we deal with this,’ was a nice way to tie it together. And then there’s the fun tag which plays into future movies.”

As Feige notes, the Doctor Strange mid-credit scene did feature an Avenger.

Regarding Doctor Strange mingling with the Avengers, fans won’t have to wait that long as Benedict Cumberbatch is confirmed for The Avengers: Infinity War, and it’s also thought Benedict Cumberbatch might make an appearance in Thor: Ragnarok.
