Deadpool 2 is a smash hit as Thursday night previews saw record numbers for an R-rated movie with $18.6 million.
The sequel crushed the $13.5 million previous Thursday night record brought in by IT last year, and it is nearly $6 million more than the first Deadpool movie brought back in 2016.
The Thursday number is actually on par with The Avengers and ahead of the $18.5 million preview for Jurassic World, both of which debuted over $200 million.
Deadpool 2 was initially pegged to open around $130 million – similar to the first movie – but if the numbers stay as high as they do, expect a much larger opening.
The Rotten Tomatoes score is at 84% with 228 reviews accounted for: 191 Fresh to 37 Rotten.
