What is Supergirl about?

The film adapts Tom King’s 2022 comic series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, illustrated by Bilquis Evely.

In the storyline, Ruthye Knoll, a young alien warrior, embarks on a galactic journey with Supergirl to hunt down Krem of the Yellow Hills, the villain who killed her father. It’s also been said Krypto has a role who first appears in James Gunn’s Superman.

“She’s much more hardcore” than Superman

At the press event from January 2023, Gunn revealed his Supergirl is much more hardcore than his David Corenswet Superman.

“We see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl,” said Gunn. “She’s much more hardcore, she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.”
