Darth Maul Origin Video Game Hopes To Get Green Lit

At one time, a Darth Maul video game was in development for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii U, which was being developed by Red Fly said to be inspired by the Batman Arkham games.

The game was axed back in 2011; however, it’s learned the developers have been working on the project and want to pitch it to Electronic Arts, which holds the Star Wars video game rights.

A recent Reddit AMA saw Red Fly Studio CEO and owner Dan Borth state he wants to “resurrect” the title, and that they have been working on a “full, next-gen demo of all things Maul to show to the powers that be.”

The powers that be, of course, are EA and Disney.

“We have been burning a candle for this game since it was killed in hopes we can get it turned back on again,” Borth said, with mention the game has been a lot of work on their off-time. “IF that is to happen we need to approach EA with a demo that will impress them. I think we have that or are close to it. Still it is completely not up to us.”

While Borth admitted he doesn’t know what his chances are of getting the game made, he did offer it’s a Darth Maul origin story that would lead up to directly before the events of Episode 1 and see players play as a young Maul, aged 9 or 11.

“We wanted to show what he went through to become a Sith. Showcase the torture the Emperor put him through,” he said. “Show how you as the player would have made the same mistakes and ended up a Sith.”

Darth Maul was also previously described as being “insanely powerful and deadly” in the game (via gamespot).
