WB Reviving Akira With Daredevil Season 2 Co-Showrunner

[page_title]

It’s learned Warner Bros. is reviving the live-action adaptation of Akira.

THR reports Daredevil Season 2 co-showrunner Marco Ramirez will write a new Akira movie.

Ramirez is also known for writing episodes of Sons Of Anarchy, Da Vinci’s Demons and Orange Is the New Black.

The report mentions Andrew Lazar (American Sniper) and Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way Productions are on board as producers.

Akira almost made it to the big screen back in 2012 with Garrett HedlundKristen StewartKen Watanabe and Helena Bonham Carter attached at one point.

Interestingly enough, Disney just canceled plans for the third Tron film, which was to star Hedlund. Perhaps with Hedlund not doing any more Tron movies, he could hop on the new Akira?

Akira is a Japanese manga comic from Katsuhiro Otomo described by Amazon as:

Welcome to Neo-Tokyo, built on the ashes of a Tokyo annihilated by a blast of unknown origin that triggered World War III. The lives of two streetwise teenage friends, Tetsuo and Kaneda, change forever when paranormal abilities begin to waken in Tetsuo, making him a target for a shadowy agency that will stop at nothing to prevent another catastrophe like the one that leveled Tokyo. At the core of the agency’s motivation is a raw, all-consuming fear of an unthinkable, monstrous power known only as Akira.

Katsuhiro Otomo’s stunning science fiction masterpiece is considered by many to be the finest work of graphic fiction ever produced, and Otomo’s brilliant animated film version is regarded worldwide as a classic.
