25 years ago! I remember it like it was yesterday!

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the release of Infinity Gauntlet by Jim Starlin, Ron Lim and George Perez.

I can recall being 15 years old or so and walking into my LCS and seeing the George Perez Infinity Gauntlet #1 cover right on the table. It blew me away! I was a little disjointed as, for some reason, the copies weren’t totally mint, but were frayed a bit in the corners. I picked which one I felt was in the best shape and quickly nabbed it up! I also picked up all the crossover issues I could find as I was enthralled with Thanos, the power of the Infinity Gems, and Thanos having killed half the universe. One of the Infinity Gauntlet tie-in issues showed the death of the heroes (ended up being a Silver Surfer or Adam Warlock dream, I think; go figure), and I remember telling all my friends: Spider-Man’s dead! Wolverine’s dead! Etc. Quasar?! No!! Amazing stuff!

Now we see that Infinity Gauntlet has been a major inspiration for the Marvel Studios movies as Thanos and the Infinity Stones have been introduced and will headline Avengers: Infinity War in 2018. Starlin also previously revealed the Marvel editors were a little bit wary about Infinity Gauntlet as well! Ha! Guess things don’t change at the House of so-called Ideas!

That said, Marvel is holding an Infinity Gauntlet 25th Anniversary panel at next month’s New York Comic-Con featuring Jim Starlin. Here are the details:
