After five seasons, Brandon Routh says goodbye to Legends of Tomorrow as the Atom actor is leaving the show and has filmed his final scenes.

Routh took to Instagram to say goodbye.

“My final day of filming with my #LegendsFamily. I love you all & appreciate the 5 seasons we’ve spent together,” Routh posted on Instagram. “It hasn’t always been easy, but I think that’s what makes it harder to leave—getting through the growing pains of the first few seasons has bonded us. And made the last three seasons a blast! I’ve never been at a job this long, so this is new for me. I think I will miss you all and the fun we’ve had making this silly show on the #Waverider—as much as I’ll miss bringing #RayPalmer to life. Love & blessings on a great finish to the season.”

Back in August saw it first learned that Brandon Routh would be leaving the show, as well as Courtney Fort who plays Nora Darhk. Regarding the departure of Routh, it is said to be because his character was organically written out, though it is known that Crisis On Infinite Earths is introducing a new Atom, played by Osric Chau.

Brandon Routh filmed final scenes for Legends of Tomorrow

“Brandon and Courtney have been invaluable members of the Legends family,” series executive producers Phil Klemmer, Grianne Godfree and Keto Shimizu said in a statement. “They have always brought a level of passion and collaboration to their characters and to the show — both on and off the screen – that we deeply admire and for which we are eternally grateful. As one of the founding Legends of Tomorrow, Brandon is extremely beloved by the fans and everyone on the show. Of course, when we have had main characters in the past whose journeys take them away from the Waverider, it’s never truly goodbye. We love these characters and hope to check in with them in future seasons, to see how life off the ship has transformed them for better or worse.”

Brandon Routh also happens to be playing the Kingdom Come version of Superman in Crisis On Infinite Earths, so perhaps WB has plans for Routh to continue the role in some form, possibly on HBO Max or The CW (cross your fingers).
