Black Myth: Zhong Kui has been revealed by Game Science as the next installment in the Black Myth series.
The new action RPG continues the studio’s Chinese mythology-inspired approach, with players stepping into the role of Zhong Kui, a legendary ghost-catching god who roams between Hell and Earth.
Sequel to Black Myth: Wukong
Following the success of Black Myth: Wukong, which sold 10 million copies in its first three days, Game Science is expanding the series with Black Myth: Zhong Kui. The developer confirmed the game is in early production, and no release date or release window was announced. Xbox players can still look forward to Wukong arriving on Series X|S on August 20, 2025.
Story and Setting
Host Geoff Keighley introduced the game during Opening Night Live, describing Zhong Kui as the “ghost-catching god who wanders between Hell and Earth.” The story is set against the backdrop of the Chinese folktale Zhong Kui Banishing Evil, with players expected to face supernatural threats and explore a dark, mystical version of ancient China.
Game Science says the game will feature “distinctive experiences and gameplay features” while addressing areas they felt needed improvement from Wukong.
Developer Statement
Game Science released a poetic teaser to accompany the reveal, highlighting Zhong Kui’s role as both judge and warrior, wielding his sword to decide between right and wrong. While no gameplay was shown, the studio emphasized that Black Myth: Zhong Kui will be a single-player action RPG rooted in Chinese fantasy.
What’s Next
Black Myth: Zhong Kui is still in early development with no footage yet available. Meanwhile, Black Myth: Wukong continues to expand, with hints that additional content or DLC could still be on the way.
Here is the official tease from GameScience:
New Black Myth title — officially unveiled today!
No ghosts walked the earth till born of human heart;
Onstage and off, immortals fall to fiends—their perfected art.
Indoors and out, the judge is bound by the same household ties;
The sun is veiled, the moon unmoved — who decrees who lives and who dies?
I turn from worldly tangles and their codes, from glories smeared with sleight.
I raise my sword — I raise it to fight;
With it, I shall judge wrong and right!
Developed by GameScience, “Black Myth: Zhong Kui” — the second entry in the Black Myth series — was officially unveiled today with its first CG teaser trailer, and simultaneously debuted during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025.
This single-player action role-playing game draws its primary creative inspiration from the famed Chinese folk figure “Zhong Kui.” As the project is still in early development, no in-game footage is available at this time.
