Erin Moriarty Responds To Andrew Tate 'The Boys' Fans For 'Misogynistic Trolling'

Erin Moriarty, who plays Starlight in The Boys, responds to the Andrew Tate fans for “misogynistic trolling.”

Moriarty responded to a social media account from “Anna” – who claims to be “karl urban’s emmy campaign manager” and who uses “she/they” pronouns – who posted an article on Medium titled “#IStandWithStarlight?: The betrayal of Erin Moriarty by The Boys ‘fans’” that mentions Andrew Tate.

Before we get to what Erin Moriarty has to say (more on that below), the article written by “butcherscanary” – where it is noted “opinions usually voiced after a bottle of red” – goes into how The Boys explores toxic masculinity but the fans fail to “employ the lessons learned.”

The author rants about how fans treat Erin Moriarty and compares that to the idealization of Andrew Tate.

“In a world of Andrew Tate idealisation, it is more important than ever to call out belittlement and bigotry,” wrote butcherscanary. “Just ignoring it, distancing ourselves so we don’t hear it anymore — it’s not enough. We have to tackle it head on, calling both the people who say it out and those who enable them too. It sounds like a near impossible task, to make such a stance, but I honestly believe we could do it. After all, since when did hopeful and naïve mean the same thing?”

Erin Moriarty responds to “Misogynistic Trolling”

In an Instagram post that has since been edited, Erin Moriarty says she feels “dehumanized” and “paralyzed,” by the fans of The Boys.

At first, Moriarty wrote, “I’ve opened up a vein for this role and the misogynistic trolling is exactly what this role (Annie) would speak out against,” but has since removed the word “misogynistic” (via Deadline).

“I do feel silenced. I do feel dehumanized. I do feel paralyzed. I’ve put blood, sweat, and tears into this role (over & over & over again), I’ve grown UP in this character’s shoes (*emphasis on grown up – we change & evolve mentally AND physically),” she wrote on Tuesday.

Moriarty continued and thanked the Instagram account for writing the article.

“So with that I say: a) thank you to @butcherscanary b) this does break my heart – I’ve opened up a vein for this role and this kind of trolling is exactly what this role (Annie) would speak out against and c) everyone’s going through their own battle(s); let’s not add to that. I will never intentionally (and ESPECIALLY) publicly add to yours,” Moriarty said.

She continued, “This has only strengthened my empathy muscle and to anyone who comes at me: I see you, I don’t hate you, I only empathize and forgive.”

The Boys showrunner also tells the fans not to watch the show.
