With Joe and Anthony Russo leaving Marvel on a high note with The Avengers: Endgame, how about the pair do a remake of Krull, the 1983 classic that mashes Star Wars with Dungeons & Dragons!
In an interview with Birth.Movies.Death magazine, the Russo brothers are asked what they want to do next with it noted that at one time Marvel Comics published a Krull comic book and what if they were called to remake Krull?
“Done! Tomorrow. I’m in!” Joe Russo enthusiastically responds. “I saw that movie four times in the theater.”
Six years ago I wrote an article about how a Krull remake should be made noting: “I was 8 years young at the time and remember being awestruck by the planet Krull and its inhabitants as they went on a quest to free the princess, vanquish The Beast, and save the galaxy! Aliens from the future had invaded the planet Krull in an attempt to take over the universe! Only a prophecy, a future king and queen, and their offspring stood in its way! As the trailer below quips, ‘This could never happen on Earth!’ “
If you haven’t seen the movie, it also sports one of the best movie scores ever by James Horner (listen below), who is known for tons of movies including Star Trek films, Cocoon, Aliens, Jumanji, Avatar, Amazing Spider-Man and lots more.
Krull was directed by Peter Yates, written by Stanford Sherman and starred Ken Marshall as Prince Colwyn who wielded the coolest weapon next to Wolverine’s adamantium claws — The Glaive! Liam Neeson also appears as a member of the band of fugitives that aids Colwyn on his quest.
I’ve always wanted a sequel as well, but unfortunately, the movie bombed at the box office bringing in only $16 million on a whopping $50 million budget. As the movie essentially tried to capitalize on the Star Wars craze as well as Dungeons & Dragons — I loved it!
I’m sure Joe and Anthony Russo would do the flick justice, so let’s hope this gets made!
