It’s learned that Antoine Fuqua, known for the Denzel Washington The Equalizer movies, is in talks with Marvel Studios and other studios for the potential to direct comic book movies.
Antoine Fuqua actually says he was approached for Black Panther, but at the time didn’t feel it was right and says the job went to the right guy (Ryan Coogler).
The Equalizer director also says Sony has approached him for the Morbius the Living Vampire movie, which has Jared Leto starring in the titular role.
Antoine Fuqua also fills in Hey U Guys (watch below) that he will be meeting with Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige to discuss projects and get a feel of how things work at the studio in terms of directing.
“For me it has to be the right one, in the right situation because there’s so much visual effects going on. ‘Where’s the director in it all?’ I need to understand it because it’s like management. They have a machine, they’ve got people, there’s the design, the whole thing is sketched out. Is the director doing that? Or is it a hundred other people?” Antoine Fuqua said.
Fuqua brings up a good point in how much control do the directors at Marvel Studios really have, which is why it’s been said Edgar Wright left Ant-Man, but at the same time, James Gunn has stated numerous times that Marvel let him do whatever he wanted with the Guardians of the Galaxy movies (which explans why it’s so different than the comics). The Russo brothers also seem to have a heavy hand in their own films, but as Fuqua’ noted, there are tons of special effects, so how do things exactly work at Marvel?
The good news is that is what Antoine Fuqua is going to discuss with Marvel.
“I’m going to have a meeting with Kevin [Feige] soon. Just talking in general. I think he is doing an amazing job. It’s an incredible business,” Antoine Fuqua said.
Any ideas what Marvel character(s) would fit with Antoine Fuqua? There has been talk of a Blade reboot, or how about something X-Men related? Or how about a Moon Knight movie?
