With the release of The Avengers: Infinity War on digital, Marvel Studios has released the Captain Marvel post-credit scene featuring Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill.
The scene features Fury and Hill driving in NYC when the “Snappening” occurs. They get out of their vehicle when Hill turns to dust, so Fury reaches into his bag for some sort of communicator device, and as Fury turns to dust, he manages to send out a signal. The pager then drops to the ground revealing the Captain Marvel logo.
The Avengers: Infinity War post-credit scene ties into the upcoming Captain Marvel movie starring Brie Larson, which is actually set in the 1990s. What’s rather interesting is that Fury (as far as we know) never tried to contact her in all these years, but for some reason now decides to make the call. It is known Brie Larson will be featured in The Avengers 4, but how her character fits into things is a mystery.
One fan theory is that somehow Captain Marvel uses the Infinity Gauntlet to reverse things. Kevin Feige did state she is going to be their most powerful hero ever, and we know “regular” people can’t use the Infinity Stones, so maybe she is involved with fixing things in The Avengers 4. The only problem with that theory is that Joe Russo recently confirmed the Infinity Gauntlet (and Thanos) is permanently damaged.
Of course probably the bigger question that remains is how does Captain Marvel go from the 1990s to the present day?? Also did Fury’s message go back in time?
Captain Marvel has a March 8, 2019 release.
