It’s being reported that Jared Leto is getting a solo Joker movie of his own as Warner Bros wants to expand on his version of the character.
It’s said Jared Leto is set to star in and executive produce an untitled standalone film, which could pave the way for future movies spinning off of Suicide Squad.
Variety reports the plot details surrounding the solo Joker movie are unknown, but the studio’s idea is to expand on the world created by Suicide Squad and tie into future installments of that property.
In addition to the Joker movie spinning off from Suicide Squad, WB recently announced Margot Robbie Harley Quinn flick, which looks to adapt in part Birds of Prey.
The report also mentions a search is underway for a writer, and that it is unknown when it will start filming or even if it will film before or after Suicide Squad 2.
It’s noted the Todd Phillips Joker origin movie previously announced with Joaquin Phoenix is still happening, which saw WB emphasize that it did not mean the end for Leto’s Joker, but that the Joker origin film would be separate from the DCEU.
Jared Leto debuted as Joker in 2016’s Suicide Squad, and Leto had roles recently in Blade Runner: 2049 and the Netflix movie, The Outsider.
