More info is learned about the upcoming solo Batman movie from director Matt Reeves.
While doing additional promotion for the War for the Planet of the Apes movie, Matt Reeves offers that his Batman will be a noir-driven detective version (via New Trailer Buzz YT):
I’m just starting. We’re just beginning. These movies are so intensive, that I literally only finished this movie about ten days ago, and now suddenly we’re travelling and trying to let the world know about it. I will say one of the reasons I was drawn to it was I had a similar fascination to Batman, when I was young, that I had with the Apes series, which I was obsessed with. I see a parallel, emotionally, between Caesar and Batman in that they are both characters who are tortured and sort of trying to grapple with within themselves to find the way to do the right thing in a very imperfect, and to some degree, a corrupt world.
And so it’s really that emotionality that I’m interested in. I want to do a very point-of-view-driven… You know this film and all the films, and what I try to do, in almost a Hitchcockian sense, is use the camera and use the storytelling so that you become the character. You empathize with that point-of-view. I think there is a chance to do an almost noir-driven detective version of Batman that is point-of-view driven in a very very powerful way that is hopefully going to connect you to what’s going on inside of his head and inside of his heart.
Matt Reeves also recently confirmed that his Batman of choice will be Ben Affleck.
Ben Affleck next appears as Batman in Justice League.
War for the Planet of the Apes hits July 14.
