Actually, Saw Gerrera first appeared in Star Wars: Clone Wars, so we now see things come full circle.
Star Wars: Rogue One didn’t go in-depth regarding Saw Gerrera’s backstory as it was only said he is an extremist and no longer working with the main Rebel Alliance due to being a problem for them, so we can guess the Star Wars Rebels animated series might explore what happened.
