The Mortal Kombat movie reboot has found a director with Simon McQuoid.
Variety reports Simon McQuoid, who is known for directing various commercials, is in final negotiations. James Wan will be producing along with Michael Clear, Todd Garner and Jeremy Stein, with Lawrence Kasanoff serving as executive producer. The Mortal Kombat script has been written by Greg Russo.
Mortal Kombat first started off as a popular video game in the ’90s with its realistic depiction of digital characters and their gruesome fighting moves and finishers. The first Mortal Kombat movie premiered in 1995 and did rather well at the box office, but its sequel, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, failed to make even half of the first movie’s gross. The brand was revived with the The Mortal Kombat: Legacy prequel series in 2011 as well as the recent video games including the best-selling Mortal Kombat X game. The most recent game released is Mortal Kombat XL.
