Spider-Verse Nominated For Oscar; Lord and Miller React

Earlier saw the 2019 Oscars nominations revealed where Sony’s Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse has been nominated for Best Animated Feature Film.

The Spidey movie will be facing tough competition as also up for the Best Animated Feature Film Oscar includes Incredibles 2, Isle of Dogs, Mirai and Ralph Breaks the Internet.

Chris Miller and Phil Lord, producers behind the Spidey movie, reacted to the news of getting nominated with mention of the late Stan Lee (via THR):

“This and coffee really helped us wake up this morning!” Miller quipped, adding on a more serious note, “The message of being so inclusive and that anyone can see themselves on the screen is something that I think a lot of people have connected to … The fact that anyone can find something they can personally connect to is the embodiment of what we were hoping to say with the inclusive message that started with Stan Lee.”

“And to do that in a way that feels like we were pushing the medium in new directions is really gratifying. We took a lot of creative risks,” Lord adds, saying that the filmmakers were on a group text to talk this morning — and this involved a lot of emojis. “Animators only speak in graphic images.”

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse also won a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture — Animated where the duo also thanked Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.

Sony has announced a sequel and plans for a “Spider-Women” animated spinoff are in the works.
