Last month saw it become known that Nicolas Cage is voicing none other than Spider-Man Noir in Sony’s upcoming Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse animated film.
In the comics, Spider-Man Noir is an alternate Spider-Man from the 1930s who has been accidentally bitten by an illegally imported and highly venomous spider while secretly investigating a smuggling ring of ancient spider statues. Embedded with the super powers of a spider, he battles the criminal underworld in New York City as a brutal and feared vigilante known as the “Spider-Man,” avenging the death of his uncle Ben Parker at the hands of the city’s major crime lord, Norman Osborn.

EW.com caught up with Nicolas Cage to talk about the role.
“There are multiple Spider-Men in different dimensions that are kind of colliding together,” Nicolas Cage said of the movie. “My character’s Spider-Man Noir. He’s really Peter Parker from the ’30s. I tried to channel those noir films with [Humphrey] Bogart, and have those kinds of sounds that he might make with [James] Cagney, or Edward G. Robinson, that kind of way of talking. I tried to give the character that. It was a lot of fun. I think it should be quite funny. The movie definitely has a sense of humor, and that’s a good thing because it’s good for the whole family.”
The movie gets released December 14, 2018 directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman.
