Captain Marvel: Starforce Revealed

Captain Marvel: Starforce Revealed

With the new first look images from Captain Marvel, details include that Carol Danvers will be a part of the Kree military force known as Starforce.

Fans of comics – and Wendell Vaughn Quasar – will recognize the team from the comics as part of the Operation: Galactic Storm event, which sees Starforce having been put together by the Kree Supreme Intelligence during the Kree/Shi’ar Intergalactic war representing the Kree’s greatest of their genetic creations of science.

Per the norm, the MCU will be different, with Starforce composed of Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Djimon Hounsou’s Korath, Gemma Chan’s sniper Minn-Erva, and Jude Law is revealed to be playing the leader, Mar-vell.

“He is driven by a belief in the divine leadership of the Kree people,” Juede Law tells EW.com. “So he’s almost a devout warrior — unquestioning, conservative, but inspirational.”

The article notes of all the Starforce members, Mar-vell is particularly close to Carol, whom he views as more of a pet project.

“These extraordinary powers she has, he sees them as something of a blessing and something that she has to learn how to control,” Jude Law says. “That’s a motif throughout the piece, the element of learning to control one’s emotions and to use your powers wisely.”

In the comics, Mar-Vell is responsible for Carol Danvers getting her powers, but what they do in the MCU remains to be seen.

“There’s a lot and back and forth that comes with the two of them, which kind of creates a little bit of tension with the rest of Starforce,” Brie Larson adds. “Like, ‘Why do they have a special relationship, and why isn’t it me?’”

As the article notes, Jude Law has a previous connection to the MCU with Robert Downey Jr., as the two star in the Sherlock Holmes franchise.

“I don’t know that he ever gave me any advice, but he obviously had a great time making these,” Jude Law said. “He talked a little bit about how [making a Marvel movie is like] fitting this one piece into a bigger picture that someone else has got their eyes on, and giving yourself over to that. It’s not about trying to understand everything. Just do your piece.”

How exactly the movie handles the Carol Danvers origin story remains to be seen as it ties into Mar-Vell, the original Captain Marvel in the comics.
