Thanos’ Motivations Made Known For The Avengers: Infinity War

In less than fifty days, Marvel’s Assemblers will be defending the Earth in The Avengers: Infinity War from the Mad Titan Thanos who seeks to acquire the six mighty Infinity Stones in hopes of assembling the all-powerful Infinity Gauntlet, which will give him dominion over all reality, the mind, power, space, time and the soul.

The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly offers insights as to what motivates Thanos.

The Avengers Infinity War Thanos

“He’s from a planet called Titan that’s no longer inhabited because of things that he thought he could help prevent, and he was not allowed to do that,” Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed. “What he feared most happened, and the planet and everybody on it basically went extinct. He vowed not to let that happen again. He thinks he sees the universe going down the tubes. He thinks he sees life expanding outward unchecked. That will bring ruin, he believes, to the universe and to that life. That’s either genius or horrific, depending on your point of view, and most of our point of views say it’s pretty horrific.”

Infinity War director Joe Russo adds that Thanos will be a big part of the movie.

“He’s on a hunt,” Joe Russo said. “We’re using a bit of a ’90s heist genre component. Thanos is on a smash-and-grab, and everybody’s trying to catch up the whole movie.”

While Thanos doesn’t have all the gems in The Avengers: Infinity War, the Mad Titan is still supremely powerful. Yet-to-be released footage even featured Thanos calling down a moon.

“All the kind of grabbing-of-the-moon because of the gems, and all …?” Josh Brolin said with a deep laugh. “That’s the fun stuff.”
