‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’ Gets ‘Shang-Chi’ Director

Following Comic-Con, it is confirmed that Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will be directed by Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton.

Saturday at Comic-Con saw Marvel announces its Multiverse Saga slate of movies which includes Avengers: The Kang Dynasty getting released on May 2, 2025, and a second Avengers movie with Secret Wars on November 7, 2025.

Destin Daniel Cretton is directing The Kang Dynasty which will obviously feature Jonathan Majors as Kang and it’s probably safe to assume Simu Liu as Shang-Chi and other characters that make up Marvel’s Phase 4, 5, and 6.

Majors first appeared in the Disney Plus Loki series and next appears in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania which gets released on February 17, 2023, and Majors is expected to be a big part of the Multiverse Saga.

While Shang-Chi massively underperformed at the box office, it is the best Marvel film to come out of Phase 4 (not counting Spider-Man: No Way Home) and it did lead to Cretton signing a major deal with Marvel that also includes a live-action Wonder Man series, so obviously Kevin Feige has a lot of faith in him.

Though the Russo Brothers have expressed interest in directing Secret Wars, Feige made it clear at Comic-Con that the Russo brothers are not involved in any of the new Avengers movies; Secret Wars doesn’t have a director as of yet.

It has also been confirmed that Bassam Tariq is directing Blade, Julius Onah is directing Captain America: New World Order, and Jake Schreier is directing Thunderbolts which ends the MCU’s Phase 5.
