Following this past Sunday’s record-breaking premiere for Game Of Thrones Season 5, it’s learned that four episodes were leaked online.
Apparently, the leak came as a result of HBO giving the episodes to a group of people who had approval to receive them.
The episodes then turned up on torrent sites the day before Game Of Thrones Season 5 debuted.
It’s reported that within an hour on Saturday, the first episode was downloaded more than 1 million times.
HBO is said to be investigating the situation, which looks to have occurred because of review copies being given out to people associated with the series, as well as review copies to journalists.
Game of Thrones is known for being one of the most illegally downloaded series on the net; however, the downloads don’t seem to be making that much of a detrimental impact as the Season 5 debut saw a record audience with almost 8 million viewers – up 1.4 million from its 2014 premiere and up 800,000 viewers from it’s previously most-watched episode.
Game of Thrones airs Sundays at 9pm ET on HBO.
