Marvel’s Nova Series Again Rumored To Feature Annihilus

Marvel’s Nova series that is currently in development for Disney+ is again rumored to feature Annihilus.

The rumor comes from Daniel RPK who claims the Nova series features Richard Rider and the Nova Corps against Annihilus.

MCU adapting Annihilation?

As we’ve previously gone over, it sounds as if Marvel Studios is adapting the stellar Annihilation event comic book story from back in 2005/2006 (20 years ago!!!). The comic features Annihilus and his Negative Zone army invading the regular universe where the home planet of the Nova Corps, Xandar, gets destroyed and leaves Richard Rider as the lone-surviving member of the Nova Corps where he becomes Nova Prime.

Annihilation also features the Silver Surfer, Galactus, Drax, Super Skrull, and Ronan. Basically while all the earth-based Marvel heroes were bickering amongst themselves during Civil War and involved in a soap opera, Nova was saving the universe.

Annihilation also gave a chance for the Marvel B-list characters to shine. This was before James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies. At the time, then-Marvel Comics EIC Joe Quesada only cared if Annihilation and the related titles made money, and they did. Once Marvel Studios greenlit Gunn’s movie, Quesada and Marvel Comics canceled Marvel Cosmic, and it hasn’t been the same since (Bendis’ Guardians and Loeb’s Nova are pure garbage of the galaxy), nor has the rest of Marvel Comics which went on to ruin the comics by introducing woke concepts and replacing all the characters.

Watch out for bait-and-switch

It remains to be seen what the MCU does with Nova, but at least so far it seems to be on the right track. Ed Bernero is the showrunner who is known for being a television writer, producer, and director on Third WatchCriminal Minds, and Crossing Lines. He’s also a former Chicago cop, which fits with the Nova Corps being space cops.

What we have to watch out for is any bait-and-switch where they use Richard Rider to sell the MCU fans the woke kiddie version, Sam Alexander, that similar to Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel, is a failed woke character. We also have to look out to see if the Nova series is being made canon fodder to set up Annihilus as the big bad of the MCU at some later time. Marvel Cosmic fans have gotten f’d for years, I don’t expect it to stop any time soon.

Another downer is that it’s on Disney+, and as a result of the MCU woke series such as She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel and Secret Invasion being massive busts, the budget for Nova could be low. If Nova is something of a space opera, it needs to have a high budget not like what Gunn is doing with his Green Lantern series which is set on earth because Warner Bros. is broke.

Annihilus also happens to be a Fantastic Four villain, so they could tie it into the Fantastic Four movie. The recent comics attempted to do something similar, but it was horrible. Just don’t read the comics after 2011 and you’ll be fine.
