Those previous claims about Marvel moving away from Kang and “Kang Dynasty” being removed from the title of Avengers 5 are apparently correct.
Following Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania massively bombing at the box office and misfiring with fans, it was reported that Marvel was considering moving away from the Kang character.
Of course, then there is the Jonathan Majors fiasco as the actor who was supposed to be the MCU’s next villain and star in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty was found guilty of assault and then fired by Disney/Marvel. New accusers have also come forward.
“Minimize the character or excise him entirely”
It has also been reported that Marvel was considering recasting with a new actor to play Kang, but now THR says that Kang is done for in the MCU.
The site says Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is getting rewritten, that Marvel will either barely use the character or remove Kang entirely, and that “Kang” will no longer be featured in the title for Avengers 5:
Marvel is also cleaning up the creative mess left in the wake of Jonathan Majors, the once-rising actor cast to play the lynchpin villain role in the next Avengers movies but who in December was found guilty of reckless assault in the third degree and harassment in a Manhattan court after a domestic incident with his ex-partner, a movement coach he met while working on Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Marvel dropped Majors hours after the conviction and is rewriting those movies, which will now either minimize the character or excise him entirely. The first of the new Avengers movies, due out in 2026, was initially titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty but will be getting a new title to remove the character’s name, though sources say that even before Majors’ conviction, the studio was making moves to minimize the character after Quantumania underperformed, grossing $476 million.
Could be Secret Wars Part 1 and Part 2
Personally, I wouldn’t have a problem if they simply forgot out Kang completely as Loki Season 2 basically finished that story, IMO.
Rumors offer Deadpool & Wolverine might help fix things as it has been claimed Deadpool & Wolverine will lead into Avengers: Secret Wars.
It’s guessed that Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers 5 will be turned into an “Avengers: Secret Wars — Part 1,” which also leads into the big Avengers: Secret Wars movie.
Fantastic Four has also been claimed to be setting up Secret Wars, as has Spider-Man 4, assuming the problems with that movie get worked out.
As things stand, Avengers 5 is due out May 1, 2026 followed buy two untitled MCU movies; Avengers: Secret Wars has a May 7, 2027 release date.
