A description for an Avengers: Doomsday sizzle reel has landed online, which offers a look at Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.
Before we dive in, what’s also worth pointing out is that the sizzle reel is said to have been shown at a Disney Blockbuster Consumer Products presentation.
An Instagram user has also said that the same presentation revealed the villains of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. So, apparently, the Disney Consumer Products event actually happened.
Robert Downey Jr. also teased a pic of himself on social media where he can be seen wearing a muscle suit and “dots” on his face, which are for CGI.
So the following info lines up, as Robert Downey Jr. would be wearing the dots, so they could make his Doctor Doom face look disfigured in post-production.
Avengers: Doomsday Sizzle Reel description
While the footage hasn’t made its way online, we get the info via Chris Gore of Film Threat. According to what has been posted online, Gore was at the Disney event and said the following while appearing on the Nerdrotic YouTube channel:
Doctor Doom in Doomsday is armored and his face is disfigured. Like the old Universal Monster movies.
Update: Additional leaks from the Disney presentation have made their way online.
Disfigured Doom lines up with the Secret Wars comics
The description happens to sync up with the Secret Wars comics released in 2015, where Doom’s face is revealed to be disfigured.
Here’s the page from Secret Wars #3 (above). Of interest is that following the comic event, Doom’s face gets healed, and he goes on to become the “Infamous Iron Man.”
X-Men writer Chris Claremont spilled the beans and has said Robert Downey Jr. is playing four characters in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars:
Has anyone seen the commercial for the 50 superhero, 4 super villain — not X-Men movie, almost, sounds like it, you better believe it — the Marvel movie that’s in production now? I mean, we’ve got Robert Downey Jr. playing evil person, Iron Man — wait, that’s confusing — and then he’s playing two other roles.
Release info
Marvel Studios has announced the release dates have been pushed back, with Avengers: Doomsday moved from May 1 to December 18, 2026.
Avengers: Secret Wars is moving from May 7 to December 17, 2027.
