Zack Snyder Celebrates 19 Years Of 300 As Big March Anniversary Month Rolls On

Zack Snyder is celebrating the 19-year anniversary of 300, marking March 9 as the release date of the 2007 movie that helped define his signature visual style.

Snyder shared a series of Instagram posts about the milestone, including one simply saying, “19 years ago today,” while earlier posts hyped up a rewatch and called on fans to make it “movie night.” 300 opened in the United States on March 9, 2007.

Snyder hypes 300 for anniversary

Ahead of the anniversary, Snyder had already been building toward the date on Instagram.

In one post, he told fans it was time to grab the Blu-ray or find the movie on streaming and plan a watch party.

In another, he quoted one of the film’s best-known lines: “A new age has begun. An age of freedom, and all will know, that 300 Spartans gave their last breath to defend it!”

That made it clear Snyder wasn’t letting the anniversary pass quietly. Even nearly two decades later, 300 remains one of the movies most associated with his career and one that still gets fans talking every March.

Larry Fong joins in

Cinematographer Larry Fong also joined the celebration with his own post.

Fong thanked Snyder “for the opportunity to create something memorable” and noted that 300 was their first feature together.

That also adds another layer to the anniversary, as 300 wasn’t just a breakout moment for Snyder. It was the start of a creative partnership that fans still connect with some of his most popular work.

A busy month for Snyder fans

The 300 anniversary comes during a packed stretch of March Snyder anniversaries. The film starred Gerard Butler as King Leonidas. The main cast also included Lena Headey as Queen Gorgo, David Wenham as Dilios, Dominic West as Theron, Vincent Regan as Captain Artemis, Michael Fassbender as Stelios, and Rodrigo Santoro as Xerxes.

Zack also celebrated the releases of Watchmen on March 6, 2009, and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hit theaters on March 25, 2016.

It also comes just days after Snyder’s birthday. The director was born on March 1, 1966, which means he turned 60 on March 1. So the anniversary posts for 300 land right in the middle of what has turned into a big celebratory stretch for Snyder and his fanbase.
