Acolyte Leslye Headland Showrunner Planned To Ruin Yoda, Too

Lucasfilm’s cancelled Disney+ series The Acolyte continues to generate backlash, as comments from showrunner Leslye Headland reveal plans that would have drastically altered Yoda’s character in a potential Season 2.

Speaking on The George Lucas Talk Show, Headland confirmed that Yoda would have helped cover up questionable actions by the Jedi Order, which apparently would have revealed his Dark Side.

“For sure. Yeah,” Headland responded when asked if Yoda would assist Vernestra Rwoh in concealing the truth.

Yoda Would Have Backed a Jedi Cover-Up

Headland’s comments suggest that Yoda would have supported Vernestra Rwoh in blaming Sol for multiple deaths — including Indara, Torbin, Kelnacca, Jecki, and Yord — after Sol was killed by Osha upon admitting he murdered her mother.

Under the proposed storyline, Yoda would have:

• Backed the narrative that Sol was a rogue Jedi
• Helped shield the Jedi Council from scrutiny by the Galactic Senate
• Supported covering up Qimir’s involvement after Vernestra confided the truth

The implication is that Yoda knowingly would have helped protect the institution of the Jedi Order, even if it meant obscuring the truth.

Headland Says Yoda Has Done It Before

Headland anticipated fan backlash and addressed it directly during the interview.

She stated that Yoda would act “in advance” and told fans not to “come at [her] in the comments,” arguing that the character has behaved similarly in the past — specifically referencing The Clone Wars.

While Yoda has certainly made difficult decisions throughout Star Wars lore, critics argue that positioning him as an active participant in a deliberate institutional cover-up would fundamentally alter how audiences view the legendary Jedi Master.

The Acolyte Fallout Continues

The Acolyte faced significant criticism throughout its run before ultimately being cancelled after one season.

The idea that Season 2 would have depicted Yoda aiding in political damage control for the Jedi Council is already drawing strong reactions online.

For many longtime fans, Yoda represents the moral compass of the Jedi Order. Depicting him as complicit in protecting corruption — even under the justification of preserving stability — would have marked one of the most controversial creative choices in modern Star Wars storytelling. Be glad it didn’t happen.
