Zachary Levi is speaking out about why woke storytelling continues to turn audiences off, and why it keeps failing at the box office.
Appearing on Nerdrotic’s YouTube channel, the Shazam star didn’t hold back, arguing that Hollywood’s obsession with agenda-driven storytelling has crossed a line.
Zachary Levi: Audiences Are Tired of Being Preached To
Levi said the problem isn’t politics existing at all, but how aggressively they’re being forced into stories where they don’t belong:
“…Ram rodding. Lots of agenda that even, by the way, people on the left and in the center are kind of like, I’m f-cking over this. Why do we have to have this as a plot point in the story? It makes no sense. It doesn’t move anything forward. I’m being preached to within the setting of what should be escapism.”
Levi emphasized that movies and TV are supposed to offer an escape, not feel like lectures disguised as entertainment.
Political Messaging vs. Moral Storytelling
During the discussion, a YouTuber drew a distinction between political storytelling and moral storytelling, something Levi appeared to agree with.
The argument is that strong stories focus on right and wrong, choices and consequences, and universal human values. When stories become political instead of moral, they stop engaging audiences and start alienating them.
That shift, according to the discussion, is a major reason so many modern franchises struggle to connect with fans.
Politics and the Warner Bros. Discovery Deal?
Levi also suggested politics may have played a role behind the scenes at Warner Bros. Discovery.
He floated the idea that political considerations could be one reason WBD didn’t accept Paramount’s offer, hinting that ideology may now influence corporate decisions just as much as financial ones.

Whether fans agree or not, Levi’s comments reflect a growing frustration shared by audiences — and increasingly by actors — who feel Hollywood has lost sight of why people watch movies in the first place.
