Zack Snyder Teams With James Gunn In Dawn of the Dead Throwback Images

Zack Snyder has shifted his recent nostalgia run away from the DCEU and back to where his Hollywood breakout began, sharing new Dawn of the Dead (2004) throwback images, and tagging James Gunn in the process.

Snyder captioned the post: “Proud father moment on Dawn of the Dead (2004) — written by the one and only @jamesgunn. What a fun time!!”

The film marked Snyder’s feature directorial debut and was written by Gunn years before either filmmaker became tied to DC.

Gunn replied to the post, “Amazing times.”

The Timing Raises Eyebrows

The post lands at an interesting moment.

Industry chatter continues to claim that James Gunn’s position at DC Studios could be impacted by a potential Warner Bros. Discovery sale to Netflix.

While nothing has been confirmed, the timing of Snyder spotlighting his collaboration with Gunn has not gone unnoticed by fans already dissecting every move from both filmmakers.

Earlier in the year, Gunn also broke the internet when he shared a photo with Snyder (pictured).

Netflix, DC, And A Shift In Tone?

Adding to the speculation are ongoing claims that Netflix would want to move DC away from Gunn’s lighter, more comedic tone and toward a darker, more grounded approach — something closer in feel to the SnyderVerse, but without actually restoring Snyder’s continuity.

That idea lines up with recent industry whispers suggesting Netflix is more interested in tonal reset than franchise resurrection, should it gain control of DC assets.

WBD Board Rejects Paramount Skydance Bid

Meanwhile, Warner Bros. Discovery’s board recently advised shareholders to reject Paramount Skydance’s hostile takeover bid, reinforcing the sense that major corporate decisions are still in flux.

With bidders still circling WBD, the future direction of DC remains anything but settled.

For now, Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead post may simply be a look back at where it all started. But given the broader context, fans are once again watching closely, especially when Snyder and Gunn’s names appear together.
