Wolverine Trailer Slashes onto PlayStation: Mature, Bloody, and Brutal

Sony has finally dropped the first full trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine during its September 2025 State of Play showcase, and it’s every bit as savage as fans hoped.

Developed by Insomniac Games, the studio behind the massively successful Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise, the PS5 exclusive is set for release in Fall 2026.

A Darker Take on Logan

Unlike Insomniac’s friendly neighborhood web-slinger, Wolverine embraces an unapologetically mature tone. The game is M-rated, packed with bloody claw combat, dismemberments, and Logan’s berserker rage on full display. The trailer introduces Omega Red and Mystique, as well as a massive mutant-hunting Sentinel, showing that this won’t just be a grounded brawler — it’s a full-blown mutant war.

The story follows Logan on a relentless search for answers about his dark past. Haunted but determined, Wolverine tears his way through factions like the Reavers, with every slash reminding players why he’s called a “living weapon.”

Voice and Performance

Actor Liam McIntyre (best known as JD Fenix from Gears of War 4) brings Logan to life.

McIntyre channels Wolverine’s rage and vulnerability, giving the character a raw edge. Insomniac says this new interpretation focuses on the reluctant hero struggling to balance humanity with his violent nature.

Global Settings and Brutal Encounters

The trailer teases a globe-trotting story with battles set in the Canadian wilderness, the crime-ridden streets of Tokyo, and the corrupt island nation of Madripoor.

Each location promises to push Wolverine into bloody, destructive encounters where stealth, claws, and pure ferocity collide.

Built for PlayStation 5

Like Insomniac’s Spider-Man games, Wolverine is designed exclusively for the PlayStation 5, leveraging fast, fluid combat, cinematic set pieces, and full-scale accessibility features. The game’s cover art was also revealed, leaning into the darker tone.

Insomniac confirmed more will be shown in Spring 2026, but the trailer already cements Wolverine as one of the most anticipated PlayStation exclusives to date.
