Michael Bay Rumored Back On Transformers, With Five Projects In Development

Following the news that Transformers One won’t be continuing, a new report claims Michael Bay is back and that five projects are currently in development at Paramount.

The claims follow The Wrap recently stating Paramount’s plan for future Transformers movies remains murky. I also added that it seems plans are on hold at Paramount until the Skydance merger goes through.

What is said about Transformers?

The new info comes via Puck News which is run by Matt Belloni, who is an entertainment lawyer and previously headed up THR.

According to the site, Michael Bay is back on Transformers with a new project.

It’s said that Transformers One director Josh Cooley is actually involved with a new live-action film (Cooley recently confirmed the Transformers One animated movies are dead).

The report also says the G.I. Joe / Transformers movie is still happening.

Also that two other ideas are in the early stages.

“Bay approached the studio last year to come back as a hands-on producer and possibly director, and he’s got writer Jordan VanDina working on a script. It’s one of five or so Transformers projects in development that David Ellison and Skydance will inherit if/when the Paramount sale closes.”

“Josh Cooley, who made last year’s animated Transformers One, just closed a deal to pursue a live-action take. There’s also a possible G.I. Joe/Transformers crossover in development, and the studio has two separate ideas in early stages.”

Waiting for the Skydance merger to go through

We’ll have to wait and see if any of this is true, as again, I believe Skydance will have the final say if any of these projects go through. Skydance is acquiring Paramount and is awaiting on Federal approval for the merger to go through, which is expected to happen soon.

As we’ve gone over, Star Trek at Paramount also seems to be playing the waiting game amid the Skydance merger. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will be finishing with Season 5, and it seems as if Academy will only be getting two seasons. Rumors offer Skydance won’t be renewing Alex Kurtzman’s Star Trek contract and that some sort of reboot will be happening. So it seems as if something similar could be happening with Transformers.

Michael Bay directed five Transformers movies, which have brought in billions. However, The Last Knight, released in 2017, failed to deliver. Likewise, Bumblebee, Rise of the Beasts, and the aforementioned Transformers One animated movie are considered busts.

What’s next for Transformers?

Hasbro did recently announce the Transformers: Cyberworld animated series and toy line launches next month. It’s a new digital series rolling out on the official Transformers YouTube channel through summer 2026.

New Transformers comics are also being published by Robert Kirkman, creator of The Walking Dead and Invincible. Kirkman is writing as of issue #25, which hits local comic shops on October 8.
