What the reviews say

The negative

Critics on the negative side say Ironheart feels like filler in the broader MCU. Common complaints target the show’s weak pacing, uneven tone, flat character arcs, and reliance on Marvel tropes. Others criticize the writing for lacking depth and failing to balance the series’ themes of grief, technology, and magic. Some felt the show doesn’t know what it wants to be or how to fully let Riri shine.

“It’s a heavy load to carry, and despite Dominique Thorne’s best efforts at making Ironheart a credible hero, as a concept, Ironheart buckles under the strain of trying to cast off Iron Man’s past.” – Daily Telegraph

“Much of the long-awaited miniseries feels more like an afterthought than a worthy origin story – or worse, a meaningless exercise in imitation, left isolated and adrift in a random pocket of a convoluted, oversaturated franchise.” – Processed Media

“Only coming alive in its final episode, which should have been its starting point rather than its cliffhanger-y conclusion, it’s further evidence that the once-mighty comic-book brand has watered itself down with second-rate heroes and adventures.” – The Daily Beast

“As written, and as played by Thorne, Riri is so dour, and so flat, that Ironheart all but grinds to a halt whenever a scene is primarily about the series’ protagonist. It’s a rare miss from a company that’s usually great at casting.” -Rolling Stone
