'28 Years' Later Launches Viral Site ‘Rage Leaks’ Hinting at Global Cover-Up

Sony Pictures has taken the viral route—literally—for its upcoming horror sequel 28 Years Later, launching a mysterious in-universe website that plays like a throwback to late ‘90s web culture and the early dark web.

RageLeeks.net: What They’re Not Telling You

The new site, RageLeaks.net, poses as an underground whistleblower hub leaking “classified” information about what’s happening in the UK nearly three decades after the rage virus outbreak. Styled as a basic, no-frills file dump, the site features grainy images, low-quality surveillance footage, distorted audio logs, and cryptic text files.

Each post is authored by “Anon” and paints a bleak picture of life behind the blockade. There’s talk of survivor enclaves, military patrols, and new virus variants—all supposedly hidden from the public by world governments.

What does the password mean?

The password “mementomori” is Latin for “remember you must die,” a phrase dating back to ancient Rome used as a grim reminder of life’s fragility and inevitable death. It often appeared alongside skulls or hourglasses to prompt reflection on the fleeting nature of life and the inevitability of death, which fits with the movie’s marketing, as the poster above is made up of skulls.

28 Years Later Trailer Released: Danny Boyle and Alex Garland Return to the Rage Virus

The Story Expands

One of the more telling updates, titled “Narrows,” refers to the Dover Strait and the belief that it’s all that separates the infected UK from mainland Europe. According to the “post,” the virus reached Europe during a second wave but was pushed back. Now, the heavily fortified “Atlantic Wall” keeps the infected out, or so we’re told.

Other notable files on the site include:

  • “Variant?” – Possibly hinting at a mutation of the rage virus
  • “Life on Patrol” – A photo dump of soldiers keeping watch in abandoned zones
  • “Surveillance Report, Lindisfarne Commune” – Suggesting organized survivor settlements
  • “Mayday” & “Pack” – Dark images with heavy implications

An ominous timer at the top of the page ticks down in real-time to the film’s release date this week.

Real-World Hype, In-Universe Paranoia

Between the gritty trailer and this immersive viral site, it’s clear that 28 Years Later is aiming for a grounded, paranoid tone similar to the original films. The Rage Virus may have started in labs, but it looks like the real danger now is what the authorities are hiding.
