What does Chad Stahelski say?

Chad Stahelski is asked for an update. He says Henry Cavill “will be great” when the interviewer mentions that she is excited to see him step into the role. Stahelski also knows his Highlander lore.

“There can be only one, I guess, right?” he says with a smile. “We’re in active prep right now. We plan to be shooting by mid-September.”

Stahelski also gives an update on the shooting location.

“It’s starting off in London,” he adds. “I hope it’s good!”

Highlander reboot details

Not much is actually known about the Highlander reboot but production recently moved to Amazon Studios. It’s thought Henry Cavill will be playing Connor MacLeod, but other than Henry, the cast hasn’t been officially announced. No other actors are even rumored for roles, which, if it follows the original, will include Ramirez, who was played by Sean Connery, and Kurgan, played by Clancy Brown.

Henry Cavill Stars As Centuries-Old Warrior

Chad Stahelski previously talked up his Highlander movie, offering it will be a big action film, and he has also said he will be using the original Queen music (which is a must!):

“… And we’re bringing it forward from the early 1500s in the highlands to the beyond present-day New York and Hong Kong, and seeing how it goes. There’s big opportunity for action. There’s a chance to play a character that not a lot of people get to play. And it’s a bit of a love story, but not how you think. On ‘John Wick,’ I learned a lot on how to bend the storytelling a little… another kind of myth.”

“My selling point was, to [Henry Cavill], look, you’ve got a guy that’s been alive for over 500 years. He’s the last person in the world that wanted to be in this situation. So you get to cover quite a broad spread of a character arc there. And you get to experience someone that’s trained over 500 years and sort of played [with many types of] martial arts…”

Production details

Via IMDb, three writers are listed as having tackled the script. We have Ryan J. Condal, who is actually the showrunner of House of the Dragon and who is known for Colony, Dwayne Johnson’s Rampage, and Hercules. Also listed is Michael Finch, who wrote John Wick 4 for Stahelski, and who is said to be the main writer. Kerry Williamson is also listed as a writer who is known for an episode of the Resident Evil TV series, What Happened to Monday, and Alex Cross.

On the production side of things, names that stand out include Neal H. Moritz as a producer who produced a slew of projects including The Boys, the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, Preacher, and the Fast and the Furious movies. Louise Rosner is also listed as a producer who is known for Borderlands, Hunger Games, and who executive produced John Wick 4. Highlander creator Gregory Widen is also listed as producing.

The concept artists listed also might give us hints at the tone of the Highlander reboot. They’ve done concept art for movies such as Blade Runner 2049, Guardians of the Galaxy, Transformers, Inception, Total Recall, Free Guy, Mulan, and lots more.

No release date has been set.
