Who is The Beyonder?
In the Marvel Comics, The Beyonder was involved in the first Secret Wars story from 1984. He became fascinated with humanity and tested their morals by creating Battleworld, a planet where he brought together Marvel’s greatest heroes and villains. In this storyline, the Beyonder’s immense power was a focal point. He could grant wishes, reshape reality, and was only temporarily defeated when Doctor Doom stole his power, proving it was too vast to control.
Fast forward to the 2015 Secret Wars and the Beyonder took on a very different role—one expanded into a more cosmic and abstract concept. This time, the story reimagined the Beyonder as part of a collective race of godlike beings called the Beyonders. Unlike the singular, curious entity of the 1980s, these Beyonders were indifferent and far more destructive. They destabilized the multiverse, triggering the Incursions, where parallel universes collided and were destroyed. This led to the collapse of the multiverse and the creation of a new version of Battleworld, ruled by Doctor Doom, who had stolen the Beyonders’ power to become a godlike figure himself.
Henry Cavill’s Potential as The Beyonder
Fans believe Cavill’s past roles, such as Superman in the DCEU and Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher, demonstrate his ability to portray complex, larger-than-life characters.
Cavill has also played a villain in Mission: Impossible – Fallout, and he was so good in the role that he quickly became a fan-favorite character. In fact, the director is reportedly considering bringing him back for the next installment, the final movie in the franchise.
The artwork above envisions Cavill in a sleek, otherworldly style that aligns with The Beyonder’s cosmic nature in Marvel Comics. Cavill’s charisma and gravitas could bring depth to The Beyonder, making him a compelling antagonist or an enigmatic guide in the MCU’s future.
What’s Next for the MCU?
Avengers: Doomsday, set to release on May 1, 2026, will lay the groundwork for Secret Wars, which follows on May 7, 2027. At Comic-Con, Marvel confirmed Robert Downey Jr. will return as Doctor Doom and that the Russo brothers are directing both films.
The MCU could very well be setting up Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom vs Henry Cavill as The Beyonder in a battle for the Marvel multiverse.
While it’s all presently just speculation, the idea of Henry Cavill as The Beyonder has sparked excitement among Marvel fans.
