Check out a new look at Isabela Merced who is “yoked” for James Gunn’s Hawkgirl in the upcoming Superman: Legacy movie.
The 22-year old actress who also has Madame Web coming out next week posted an image of herself on Instagram Story.
“Hold on… not me being yoked,” she said, which in slang terms means having well-defined muscles and being very muscular.
She also posted an image of Hawkgirl and said, “My inspiration.”
The image features a selfie of the actress making a muscle where her shoulder and bicep is actually pretty well defined.
Rumors say Kendra Saunders version
According to rumors, Isabela Merced is playing the Kendra Saunders version of the character who in the comics is a young Latina woman who died by suicide and is the granddaughter of the original Hawkgirl, Shiera Hall.
In DC Comics, Hawkgirl is often associated with the ability to fly due to her hawk-like wings, which are typically depicted as a result of ancient Egyptian magic or advanced alien technology depending on the version of the character. Hawgirl also possesses enhanced strength, agility, and endurance, so as we see Isabela Merced will need to sport some muscles.
It remains to be seen what James Gunn does with the character as Hawkman and Hawkgirl have either an Egyptian origin or an alien Thanagarian origin. On one side they could be reincarnations of ancient Egyptians or on the other, part of a winged human species from the planet Thanagar. Who knows? Maybe Gunn will simply skip the origin?
