The man behind Daredevil: Born Again‘s action says fans should brace for surprises in Season 3.
In a new interview, Emmy-nominated supervising stunt coordinator and second unit director Philip Silvera opened up about the upcoming season, the return of Luke Cage, Kingpin’s terrifying strength, and Bullseye, and he made it clear there is a lot still coming.
Silvera, who has been part of the Daredevil family since the Netflix era, said fans are “going to be very surprised” by what they are about to see, teasing a beautiful story ahead. He also revealed the team is roughly halfway through production on Season 3.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 is filming now, with Marvel moving forward despite the series going 0-for-17 on Nielsen.

Luke Cage Is Officially Back
Silvera also confirmed what the Season 2 finale already put in motion: Luke Cage is coming back.
While discussing the expanding street-level side of the MCU, Silvera said the team knows Luke is part of the picture, pointing directly to his appearance at the end of Season 2.
The comment also lines up with recent set photos showing Mike Colter and Finn Jones filming Season 3 scenes in New York alongside Krysten Ritter, further pointing to a full Defenders reunion.
Silvera added that the team is being very careful about staying true to each character within the show’s grounded, street-level world. With Luke Cage back in play, Season 3 is moving closer to the full Defenders comeback fans have been waiting for.

Is Kingpin A Mutant? The Action Director Weighs In
One of the recurring fan questions about this version of Fisk is how he hits so hard he seems beyond human, prompting jokes that he took the super-soldier serum.
Asked about it, Silvera admitted there is a running joke behind the scenes about Fisk being a low-level mutant. But the real answer, he said, comes from the comics, where Kingpin is pure muscle, some 300 pounds of it.
Silvera explained that he and D’Onofrio coined the term “Full Metal Rage” for Fisk’s fighting style, inspired by an early comic panel where Kingpin strikes like a silverback gorilla.
The approach, per Silvera: keep Fisk calm and controlled until he gets emotional, then let him swing with unrestrained power. He pointed to the Season 2 hallway sequence — designed deliberately like a horror movie — as the moment that strength was fully unleashed.
And that brutality is only escalating: Vincent D’Onofrio recently teased that Kingpin is “killing more than ever” in Season 3.

Bullseye’s Turn — And A Spotlight Wish
Silvera also singled out Wilson Bethel’s Bullseye as a character he would love to explore further.
He described Bullseye as sadistically charming and noted the character evolved this season from a straight villain into something closer to an anti-hero, one Silvera admitted he found himself cheering for.
Asked which street-level character he would most like to build a spotlight around, Silvera named Bullseye, floating the idea of a Bullseye-focused one-shot sequence.
He also expressed interest in revisiting characters like White Tiger and Hellcat down the line, pointing to the rich, interconnected history these street-level heroes share.

A Lingering Finale Mystery
Silvera echoed a question many fans had after the Season 2 finale: how exactly does Luke Cage fit into everything?
He noted there are plenty of question marks coming out of the season, particularly around Cage — long considered the moral center of the Defenders — and his connection to Matthew Lillard’s character.
Silvera said he is eager to see where it all goes, praising the way the team has honored the Netflix era while bringing these characters into the modern MCU.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 Release
