James Gunn Shows Off Hal Jordan’s Ring Powers In New Lanterns Teaser

James Gunn Shows Off Hal Jordan’s Ring Powers In New Lanterns Teaser

James Gunn is getting DC fans ready for a new Lanterns trailer, with the DC Studios co-head announcing that the next teaser arrives Monday.

Gunn posted the preview on X with the caption: “Danger is part of the job. New #Lanterns teaser tomorrow.”

The footage gives fans another look at Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, with HBO’s upcoming DCU series showing more Green Lantern action after complaints about the previous trailer.

Hal Jordan Uses The Ring

The big takeaway from the new Lanterns teaser is Hal Jordan finally using his Green Lantern ring.

Chandler’s Hal is shown creating a construct, which should answer one of the biggest complaints about the previous trailer. Fans took issue with the earlier footage for looking too grounded and not showing enough of the Green Lantern powers, especially after the trailer was pulled and later returned.

This new teaser makes it clear the ring powers will be part of the show, even with Lanterns leaning into a darker crime-drama tone.

John Stewart Gets In On The Action

The teaser also shows Aaron Pierre’s John Stewart in the middle of a chase scene, running and jumping off a car on what looks like a thruway.

The footage gives John Stewart a more physical action beat and helps balance out the earlier marketing, which focused more on the mystery and buddy-cop angle between Hal and John.

For fans worried Lanterns was going too far away from the comic book side of Green Lantern, this new teaser looks like a direct response. HBO and DC Studios are still selling the crime thriller tone, but the new footage brings in more of the power-ring action fans wanted to see.

Lanterns Arrives This August

Lanterns follows Hal Jordan and John Stewart as they investigate a murder on Earth, with the case tying into a larger mystery. The series has been described as a grounded DCU story with a tone closer to a crime drama than a traditional space opera.

The show is part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU Chapter One slate, titled “Gods and Monsters.”
