The Walking Dead Season 7 Premiere Ratings Are Sky High

While many fans were majorly ticked off following last season’s finale, the cliffhanger seems to have worked as Sunday’s episode of The Walking Dead Season 7 premiere had sky high ratings.

The Walking Dead Season 7 premiere recorded its second-highest Sunday ever, beating everyone in its path including the NFL (ratings-wise).

The reveal of the two deaths at the hands of Negan and Lucille netted an 8.4 rating among adults 18-49 and a whopping 17.03 million visitors.

The numbers for The Walking Dead Season 7 premiere are only second to TWD Season 5 premiere’s 8.7 rating and 17.29 million viewers (in terms of overall TWD ratings).

Regarding number of viewers for Sunday night, NFL Football’s Sunday Night Football did come out on top with 17.71 million viewers, but its rating among the coveted 18-49 demographic was much less than The Walking Dead with a 6.0. NFL football has also been plagued with low ratings this year, speculated due to the poor match-up and quality of games (SNF saw a tied score with two missed field goals in overtime) as well as the controversy surrounding its athletes kneeling during the National Anthem.

The Walking Dead‘s Season 7 Sunday premiere was also up by almost 3 million viewers compared to the Season 6 premiere (7.4 rating/14.63 million) and Season 6 finale (6.9/14.19 million).

The live episode of Talking Dead, which followed The Walking Dead Season 7 finale, saw a 3.7 with 7.57 million viewers.
